The second edition of the Pyrenees Climate Change Observatory’s Newsletter is now online

Find out the latest on the Observatory’s current work: The progress of biodiversity action, which has led to the recording of 5500 plants species in the Pyrenees, and the participation of the OPCC in an international colloquium on adaptation strategies in mountain regions.

This quarter, in “The Interview”, the coordinator of the GLORIA international Project in Aragon, explains the interesting work of monitoring the alpine flora.

The newsletter also contains information about climate change adaptation initiatives being carried out in the Pyrenees, including the strategy for the diversification of the tourism being developed in Andorra or the Drought Management Plan in Catalonia.

In addition, this issue continues with the interviews to political representatives in order to find out about the approaches to climate change taken from different political stances: the President of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, the Member of the Aquitaine Regional Council, the Climate Plan delegate and the Director of the Water Service for the Regional Government of Navarra.

OPCC meetings in Bordeaux

On January 23rd-24th, two OPCC meetings were held in Bordeaux (Aquitaine, France).

The first day was centered around a seminar entitled “Sharing strategies for climate change in our territories,” aimed at exchanging common priorities related to climate change in the WCP territories (Working Community of the Pyrenees). This meeting gave participants the opportunity to better understand different regional climate policies as well as reflect and share ideas on common priorities in the territory.

The second day was devoted to the committee of the OPCC-POCTEFA project. Regional climate experts and Observatory partners met to make a point about action progress and address future phases for 2013.

In 2013, thanks to the work done by all partners of the OPCC-POCTEFA project, we will able to continue to deepen our understanding of climate evolution throughout the Pyrenees range, as well as apply shared tools and methodology to monitor climate change indicators.

Along these lines, 2013 will also be a year of reflection for all of the regions making up the CTP with the goal of studying and planning future collective work related to climate issues.

The presentations on action progress given by OPCC partners during the committee of the OPCC-POCTEFA project are available here.
